Fresh 80 Raid Rogue Talent Build
January 29, 2009 by Visin
I am starting Heroic’s now and it needs a good raid build for my Rogue, what did I choose? You are about to find out. In World of Warcraft WotLK, there was a lack of great swords and for this, I have recently went to daggers. Daggers are faster than swords of course so it will proc your poisons faster and it which will increase DPS caused from higher poison damage. Below I will show you the first dagger raid build that I started with when I hit level 80 less than a week ago.
Mutilate Dagger Raid Build [51/13/7]
I chose this specific Mutilate build because it brought to me everything I needed in a raid specific build which is the following 3 elements…
1. Energy Regeneration - Focused Attacks allows me to regain 2 energy every time I land a critical hit which may not sound like a lot but it does add up when you 4 critical hits in a row easily. With Relentless Strikes you have a 20% chance with each Combo Point to gain 25 energy back on Finishing Moves.
2. Combo Point Stacking - With Seal Fate I have a 100% chance to add a combo point on every critical strike which is GREAT when it comes down to raids and all of the buffs you will have making this able to build up a 5 point Combo Point stack in matter of a few seconds! Also, with Ruthlessness you have a 60% chance with each Finishing Move to gain a Combo Point even adding to the value of this build.
3. High Damage Output - This build has all sorts of different ways to make sure you have high end DPS for the raid. You will be attacking with both daggers at once with this build using Mutilate and stacking poisons with insane speeds!
Assassination Tree:
5/5 Malice
3/3 Ruthlessness
2/2 Blood Splatter
3/3 Puncturing Wounds
5/5 Lethality
3/3 Vile Poisons
5/5 Improved Poisons
1/1 Cold Blood
5/5 Seal Fate
2/2 Murder
1/1 Overkill
3/3 Find Weakness
3/3 Focused Attacks
1/1 Mutilate
3/3 Turn the Tables
5/5 Cut to the Chase
1/1 Hunger for Blood
Combat Tree:
5/5 Dual Wield Specialization
5/5 Precision
3/5 Close Quarters
Subtlety Tree:
5/5 Relentless Strikes
2/2 Opportunity
As you could probably see by the way this talent build works is that you are going to be relying on your poisons to achieve maximum DPS. Try to keep up Rupture at all times so that you will always have that ticking on your bosses. Also it will be benifical on bosses to get a 5 point Slice and Dice up and then every so often refresh the duration of Slice and Dice with either Envenom or Eviscerate, this way you can have faster speeds during the WHOLE fight which will also improve your DPS!
I hope you enjoyed this little build share but if you are like me being a first time Dagger user you will learn it is not so easy jumping into things especially Naxxaramas being ill prepared with your Raid Rogue Talent Build, that would be insane right? Good luck and have fun with this build and if you have any questions just ask away!

[...] fanatic and now my views are starting to change for raiding because I have done SO well with this WotLK Raid Mutilate build. Over at the Ambush Factor I spoke of how well this build is doing and a little background [...]
While I like your overall build, I think that Vigor (with Glyph of Vigor) is too important to leave out. That’s +20 energy for 1 talent point. If you have the armor set (can’t remember the name), that’s +30 energy!
@ hermantf, the increased energy is only good for your first attack anyway. His energy regeneration is still the same, so what good is 30+ energy if you have to wait longer to fill it up? Also, your likely to burn through a couple thousand energy in a single battle so what is 30 (like 2/3 of a Sinister Strike) exrta energy at the cost of a talent point and a glyph? Extra energy is more of a PvP thing and u shud go for faster energy regen for raiding.
hi im lvl 80 rouge and my dps is really crap how can i improve my dps
I’m an 80 rogue with a low dps, i was wondering if anyone knew a talent tree that strictly dps, I don’t care if i have to kill an orc with a banana, as long as i have amazing dps, even if i just stick to 2 moves. 1 that mathematically has more dps, even if its by 1 point. I dont care for benefits, with the new duel specs i hope to have 1 talent tree as my usual and another thats just dps, for raids, dungeons and pvp.
I am an 80 rogue, former proponent of Combat Daggers, but now firmly in the corner of Raid Mutilate.
To the poster above (Beekly), you won’t be able to achieve high end dps — at least in raids and heroics — with only two moves. There is no way to make that possible. This spec above is excellent for single target dps (raid & heroic bosses.) The build I use is similar to the build above. Heavy assassination, built around energy regeneration and quick buildup of talent points. It is a good build for raids, and my dps has been better than it ever was in Combat Daggers. There are specs that will give you high dps while only asking you to use a few moves, but even then you have a number of other factors to consider (such as, when to use Feint, keeping an eye on how many poisons you have stacked, remembering to give your Tricks of the Trade back to the tank, etc.) There is not one spec that is guaranteed damage without putting thought into your rotation.
A lot of your dps is going to come from the rotation you use. One simple rotation is to open with a Garrote (which means be in stealth, or vanish and then use Garrote), trigger “Hunger for Blood”, Mutilate and Shiv up to 5 combo points, put Slice and Dice” up on the target, Mut and Shiv back to 5 points, put “Rupture” on the target, and from there just keep an eye on things. Make sure you always have a 5 point SnD up, and make sure Rupture is always up so you can regenerate Hunger for Blood. Stack poisons and use a 5 point Envenom for huge damage AND to recharge your SnD. Use “Cold Blood” in there from time to time and bust any trinkets you have. That simple rotation will increase your dps by a good amount.
Also, your gear - and the enchants you put on them - is going to have to complement the spec. Stick with gear that raises agility, crit chance and hit rating, or expertise. Enchant your gear to increase agility, hit rating & attack power; avoid stamina enchants. If you are pushing 20,000 HP (unbuffed) as a rogue, you aren’t enchanting your gear correctly.
Just spec into it and go do some lower level instances to work on your rotation in a live situation. Training dummies in the cities are fine for the sake of seeing how much dps you can do at max, but it never prepares you for the unpredictability factor that comes with fighting bosses.
Take your time to get to know this spec. It is a very good one, and I find that playing in this spec is a better option for a dagger rogue, and much more fun than I had playing in Combat.
Also, let’s be honest, “Assassination Rogue” just sounds a lot sexier than “Combat Rogue.”:P
I just reached 80 with my rogue and I choose the mutilate build 51/13/7 as you metioned above. I only have one question for the rotation you use. Why do you have to put use mutilate and shiv to reach to 5 points for SnD with 1-2 points then SnD you have SnD for 5sec or so then 1-2 points and eviscerate or envenom refresh SnD to 20sec so you save 2-3 moves if I am not mistaken and you continue the rotation as you mentioned above. just started playind dps and I am just asking so any answer would be nice
thanks in advance.
i hav a lvl 80 rogue with 4800gs mostly badged gear im having a hard time tryin to pick which gems i should be useing. right now im a combat rogue with 2.5-3k dps (daggers). i hav 40% crit about 3600 AP an about 1300 agi 230HR. i am pushing 20k Health but im not useing any gems or chants thats boost my health. im going to try this talent tree. just want to know what my goal for Crit AP Agi an HR should be so ik what i need to chant an change my gems in plz help
Well i did seriously 10042 dmg yesterday and at the top of dps meters by 25.5%… How the hell do u not do that dps? with cold blood and HoB and my trinket… 5k+ dps
i got 19k HP and 4012 AP and 1194 Agility and 1192 Stamina. But it’s Cool.
I’m not a 100% sure on this but your build If you drop 3/5 close quarters and get 3/3 master poisoner you will still get the 3% increased crit chance plus your deadly poison won’t be consumed on envenom
I was wondering what glyphs you would use
but thank you this will greatly ease the problem of choosing where to allocate the talent points.
